Inspire and engage your students in studying the origins of modern humanity!
Evidence suggests that over 2 million years ago, archaic humans began to emerge in the continent of Africa. These fascinating groups of early humans ranged from the small, hobbit-like homo floresciensis to the bipedal and tool-wielding homo habilis. For this assignment, students will choose a species of archaic humans to study and create a project to showcase their learning. Have fun!
This resource guides students through the process of conducting their own research report on an archaic human species. First, students learn how to properly conduct research without plagiarizing their sources. After researching, students choose how to showcase their learning by creating a poster board, presentation board, PowerPoint, or dodecahedron (Dodecahedron Instructions and templates are included). Afterwards, students present their learning to the class and self-assess their achievement (Teacher Rubric also included).

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy in which students are challenged to actively learn about a subject for an extended period of time. It is a form of active learning or inquiry-based learning. Project-Based Learning is in contrast to paper-based, rote memorization, or teacher-led instruction that presents established facts.
