Engage your students in studying biomes and inspire them to learn how to minimize the effects of Climate Change!

In every environment on Earth, living organisms are challenged to develop characteristics that enable them to survive. Because of this, communities of plants and animals with shared traits develop; These communities are called, biomes. Through studying biomes, we can better understand our interconnection with them and, most importantly, how best to protect them. From the cold and treeless arctic tundra to the humid and dense rainforests, each biome contains an incredible abundance of life. For this assignment, students choose a biome to study and create a project to showcase their learning. Have fun!

This resource guides students through the process of conducting their own research report on a biome. First, students choose a biome to focus on and learn how to properly conduct research. After researching, students choose how to showcase their learning by creating a poster board, presentation board, PowerPoint, or dodecahedron. Afterwards, students present their learning to the class and self-assess their achievement.

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy in which students are challenged to actively learn about a subject for an extended period of time. It is a form of active learning or inquiry-based learning. Project-Based Learning is in contrast to paper-based, rote memorization, or teacher-led instruction that presents established facts.
