Inspire and engage your students in studying the fascinating field of Biology!
Since 3000 BCE, humans began making contributions to astronomy, mathematics, and medicine, paving the way to natural philosophy and then biology, the study of living organisms. Because the field of Biology is vast, it has been divided into more than 60 sub-disciplines. These range from the awe-inspiring study of the microscopic world (Molecular Biology) to the fascinating study of what aliens might look like (Astrobiology). For this assignment, students will choose an area of biology to study and create a project to showcase their learning. Have fun!
This resource guides students through the process of conducting their own research report on an area of biology. First, students learn how to properly conduct research without plagiarizing their sources. After researching, students choose how to showcase their learning by creating a poster board, presentation board, PowerPoint, or dodecahedron (Dodecahedron Instructions and templates are included). Afterwards, students present their learning to the class and self-assess their achievement (Teacher Rubric also included).

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy in which students are challenged to actively learn about a subject for an extended period of time. It is a form of active learning or inquiry-based learning. Project-Based Learning is in contrast to paper-based, rote memorization, or teacher-led instruction that presents established facts.
